Mamacita

Yesterday I was the eating-out-celebration queen. Before I taught swim lessons for the day, I met Chelsea at Pho Real–a neat Vietnamese restaurant that specializes in serving Pho. Chels is about to head off to her summer internship in DC, so we met up for a lunch date one last time before she takes off.
I got chicken pho. I love that the broth is light and oniony–and I can add as many bean sprouts and squirts of lime as my little heart desires (which is a lot…)
Plus, there is something so wonderful about slurping noodles. Am I right?!
Mamacita is almost 50!
My mom’s 50th birthday is coming up on Saturday, so last night Kyle’s family surprised my mom with a little dinner party at Cabos, one of our favorite Mexican canitnas in Charlotte.
First thing’s first, what’s a party without margaritas?
I munched on copious amounts of chips and salsa, and ordered a spicy chipotle burrito that gave my tastebuds a little kick. But the best part of the night happened just after the restaurant’s lights cut off–we thought there was a power outage, until we heard the stampede of waiters clapping, honking a horn, and carrying this little fireball (literally) to my pretty mama.
It was a shot of who-knows-what that they lit on fire as the waiters sang happy birthday. My mom was a little confused on how to take it…so they handed her a straw and told her to have at it.
She drank it like a trooper and said it tasted like coffee
What a wonderful way to celebrate my mama–it was such a fun night!
I am a huge fan of birthdays, so I can’t wait to celebrate my mom’s big 50 on Saturday!!
How do you like to celebrate birthdays? Are you a partier or do yo like to keep your birthday low key?
I’m off to see if I can run a 5 miler. 100 miles, here I come!
xoxo,
K
